what does a therapy session look like?

You don’t need to prepare for therapy.

You don’t need a perfectly organized list of things to talk about, a clear understanding of what is bothering you or even a specific goal in mind.

Your first session is really a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy in this moment. You can ask questions, share any reservations you might have and get a feel for what working together could look like. And if you’re not sure why you’re here yet, that’s okay too. Sometimes figuring that out is part of the work.

As we get to know each other, we’ll start making sense of what’s been weighing on you. That might mean noticing patterns in your relationships, understanding why certain situations bring up such big feelings or exploring the expectations you’ve placed on yourself. It might mean learning practical ways to cope, setting new boundaries or finding more time for yourself in a life that feels really full.

We’ll work at your pace. You decide what you’re ready to share and when you’re ready to share it. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do therapy and it won’t look the same for everyone. Some sessions may leave you feeling lighter or with more clarity. Others might bring up things that you’re still thinking about later. Sometimes, it might just feel good to say something out loud that you’ve been holding in for a long time.

Therapy isn’t about having all of the answers. It’s collaborative and I’m right there alongside you.
